THE Chapel Street regeneration continues to attract major investment with the news that SPACE Developments has expanded out of Manchester’s city centre to acquired land in Salford.
Subject to planning, SPACE will create 80 contemporary one and two-bedroom apartments to a finished value of more than £10 million on the site of a derelict warehouse, in Dean Road, close to the banks of the River Irwell.
Cllr Derek Antrobus, Salford City Council's lead member for planning, said: "More and more investment is coming into Salford thanks to our proximity to Manchester city centre. As a result, the face of the whole city is changing.
"The details of this application will be considered by our planning panel in due course, but we welcome new homes and new opportunities for people to share in Salford's success that this kind of development can bring."
The Chapel Street Regeneration area stretched from Salford University along the A6 to Manchester and is pioneering the economic, architectural and social regeneration of the historic core of the city. The area is being transformed into a dynamic location that is attracting businesses, investors and developers, like SPACE.
SPACE, a UK subsidiary of the leading Irish international property developer McInerney Holdings Plc, is a specialist residential development company with a wealth of expertise in the design, construction and management of bespoke urban living environments. The company has an established reputation in Manchester and Liverpool for creating fashionable, stylish apartments that offer real value for money.
Ian Smith, managing director of SPACE Developments, says: “It’s fair to say that Manchester city centre and also Salford Quays get all the attention but more and more people are now choosing Central Salford as a place to visit, work, study, live and, of course, invest. The regeneration of Central Salford is more than a match for the phenomenal development that continues in Manchester and Salford Quays and we jumped at the chance to play a part in the Salford revolution.
“The proximity of Salford and Manchester makes our newly acquired site in Dean Road a tremendous location to live. Close to the River Irwell, it is perfectly placed between the two cities to get the best out of both.”
While Manchester continues to grab all the headlines, Salford is an unsung gem and home to more than 150 big-name companies, a world-class arts and theatre complex, 18 square miles of countryside and parks, Britain's largest inland waterway, the north west's first five star hotel, a leading UK university, Super League rugby club, the UK's Triathlon World Cup venue and, of course, it is all just minutes away from Manchester city centre.
The Dean Road site already has outline planning permission and SPACE will be submitting reserved matters for approval to Salford City Council by the end of July. Work is likely to commence during the first quarter of 2007 and completions are expected the following year.
